When I dreamed of becoming a mom, I pictured all the everyday moments - cooking together in the kitchen, watching my child discover new activities, cheering them on as they learned and grew. Having a child with a disability hasn’t changed that dream, but it has changed the way I think about making those moments possible.
For me, being Beau’s mom means constantly looking for ways to help him fully participate. When he can reach the countertop, open cupboards, or roll alongside his peers, that invisible weight in my mind lifts. Instead of worrying about how to include him, I get to watch him jump right into the activities he loves - and that freedom is priceless.
One of the things I’ve loved most is seeing Beau’s natural leadership shine. He’s protective, helpful, and eager to be part of everything happening around him. His Quantum chair has given him the independence to not just take part, but to lead the way.
Recently, Beau joined a karate class - something he’s been excited about for a long time. Thanks to the features of his power chair, Beau will soon be competing in his first karate competition. The instructors are incorporating his chair into the moves, making it possible for him to showcase his strength and spirit alongside his peers.
For our family, the chair isn’t just a piece of equipment. It’s a gateway to experiences, opportunities, and memories. It allows me to step fully into motherhood, enjoying all those everyday moments I once dreamed of. And it allows Beau to show the world what we’ve always known - that he’s a leader, a protector, and a vibrant participant in life.
We are so grateful for the independence and joy Beau’s Quantum chair brings into our everyday life. It has transformed not just what he can do, but how we can dream together as a family.
We can’t wait to see where this next adventure takes him.
